Suntech Panels Power Israel's First Large Scale Solar Array

7/27/2011

Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. (NYSE: STP), the world's largest manufacturer of solar panels, and Arava Power, Israel's leading solar solution provider, announce the completion of Ketura Sun, Israel's first solar plant, a 4.95MW photovoltaic array in the Negev desert.

Arava Power Company owns the project, which was installed by its partner, Siemens, one of the world's largest electrical engineering companies. Suntech provided 18,500 panels for the project, which is located on Kibbutz Ketura in Southern Israel.

The Ketura Sun project is historic as the first medium sized solar array in Israel, and is a leading example of solar's power to give back to the community. Israel's excellent natural solar resource means that the project will provide clean power and equitable returns to stakeholders. Over 20 years, the project will mitigate an estimated 125,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent to planting 180,000 trees. Four corners of the field will be allocated to four different charitable organizations in Israel so that the profits derived from free solar energy can be shared.

James Hu, President of Suntech for Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa said, "We are happy to provide reliable, highly efficient solar modules to Arava Power. Suntech is proud that its products have been selected for this historic project and we are just as pleased that our partners share the same vision of helping to bring the benefits of solar energy to everyone under the sun."

Arava Power's Co-Founder and Vice-Chairman David Rosenblatt said, "We chose Suntech's panels for their demonstrated reliability, leading conversion efficiencies and proven track record throughout 80 countries across the world. Our goal was not only to take a lead in developing large-scale photovoltaic projects in Israel but more so to give back to our community. We believe in the power and promise of renewable energy and that's why we have chosen four charities who will share in the profits from solar energy and we will give back directly to the community. We hope that this project will showcase how wise government policy, passionate investors and socially conscious companies can all join in driving a sustainable solar industry in Israel."
