New Avery Dennison Adhesive Improves Silicone Labelling

10/10/2013

LEIDEN, the Netherlands - October 9, 2013 - S8092 - a new adhesive from Avery Dennison - is giving automotive and other manufacturers dramatically improved performance when labelling silicone-coated materials or materials with contaminated surfaces. The new S8092 adhesive addresses two longstanding challenges encountered in the labelling industrial parts - how to convert reliably and how to make the finished label stay on a surface throughout a product's lifecycle.

"There has never been an entirely satisfactory solution to labelling these very demanding surfaces until now," says Hans Eichenwald, senior product manager, Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials - Europe. "Our new adhesive puts an end to labels peeling during and after manufacture, which cuts product returns dramatically. It also solves existing production problems with conventional solutions, such as excessive adhesive bleed during conversion that causes TT printing issues."

The new S8092 adhesive is silicone-based, which ensures labels adhere securely to siliconised surfaces without errors in WIP tracking and consequent line stops. S8092 eliminates adhesive bleed, which keeps tools clean and ensures that 100% of the material is converted. It also delivers tack that is 10% higher than the next-best alternative, and 30-40% higher than products in common use for these applications.

An optimal facestock Transfer PET36 White TOP is now available with S8092 for commercial labelling. This facestock offers very good conformability and is more opaque than solutions with pigmented adhesive. Its thinner PET front material ensures one-step labelling without edge lifting in applications with small radius curves (1cm) such as airbags. A lower than current dispatch time of 48 hours and the MOQ of 250 M2 give a higher flexibility for customers and brings down their inventory costs.
