METROLOGIC ANNOUNCES MOBILE SUPPORT FOR API TRACKERS

5/28/2012

ROCKVILLE, MD - Automated Precision Inc. (API), a leading provider of mobile measurement systems for industrial use, announced today that it has partnered again with Metrologic Group to provide greater software support for its mobile measurement systems.

As a result of this collaboration, API and Metrologic, a provider of software solutions for dimensional measurements and related services, have adapted Metrologic's latest generation of 3D measuring software, Metrolog X4, to support mobile measurement systems from API, most notably the Radian Laser Tracker. Metrologic will demonstrate an example of Metrolog X4 analyzing the data of a Radian Laser Tracker at this year's CONTROL Trade Fair on May 8-11 in Stuttgart, Germany. API's booth will be in Hall 3, Booth 3104; Metrologic's booth will be in Hall 3, Booth 3314.

Metrolog X4 is the successor of Metrolog XG. The new architecture is optimized for the latest computers and operating systems, such as Windows 64-bit, multi-processors access. The software is more powerful and capable of analyzing complicated measurements more quickly than previous versions. This is critical when analyzing CAD data and point clouds from scanners. The Radian, API's latest-generation Tracker, comes standard with a built-in camera. The wide-angle and depth-resolution of its I-Vision widens its viewing capabilities far beyond the previous narrow-band locking of current systems, which are often used to recapture an interrupted beam.

"Metrolog X4's specially developed metrology software allows the new API Laser Tracker to make the best use of its own abilities, such as the built-in camera or its work in parallel with several SMRs," said Marc Keinert, General Manager Europe at API. "Better yet, the Metrologic Group integrates with our new I-360 hand-held scanning and probing unit, capable of measuring hidden contours and undercuts. Customer service is ensured; API's service and sales teams in the meantime completed appropriate training for Metrolog X4 at Metrologic Group in Meylan, France."

The new I-360 6DOF sensor from API facilitates the measurement of large components at a distance of up to 40 meters from the laser tracker. Its wireless version can be operated on a standard lithium ion battery for up to 8 hours.

This powerful combination of software, advanced laser tracker and an external 6DOF sensor is especially valuable in the automotive sector, Keinert said. Here, the most successful and commonly used measuring devices are hybrid systems that allow probing and scanning.

Metrologic Group is the 3D inspection software leader, specializes in the design and manufacture of industry reputed 3D inspection software and electronics. Metrologic group has developed more than 60 direct machine interfaces to connect its software to any controller. Metrologic Group is headquartered in Meylan, France and is represented in more than 30 countries with subsidiaries and distributors network.
