Thermo Fisher Scientific Announcing the New Laser TX Optical Thickness Gauge

5/12/2012

Erlangen, . (May 7, 2012) - Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today launched the new Thermo Scientific Laser TX optical thickness gauge, the latest addition to its established line of online, non-contact thickness measurement and coating weight gauges. The new laser-based gauge reduces costs by eliminating radiation compliance requirements while ensuring alloy insensitivity for flat-sheet process line applications in the steel and aluminum industries. The company will introduce the Laser TX at AISTech 2012 in Atlanta May 7-10, 2012, as well as at Metals + Metallurgy China 2012 in Beijing May 9-12, 2012.

"The Laser TX optical thickness gauge combines premium Class II laser technology with established Thermo Fisher expertise and product reliability," said Christopher Burnett, technical product manager for Thermo Scientific flat sheet gauging metals applications. "Through our longtime relationships with steel and aluminum mill process line customers, we identified very specific requirements to reduce process line costs while enabling them to measure metal thickness regardless of chemical composition. The new Laser TX meets these needs while delivering accurate online, non-contact thickness measurements for a wide variety of sheet processing applications."

The new Laser TX uses laser triangulation measurement to provide alloy insensitivity, and the sensors automatically adjust to background lighting conditions. The flexible mill interface is compatible with a wide range of mill computers and communication protocols, and the device features logical operator screens that allow process engineers and OEM project planners to view all relevant data on one screen.

Thermo Fisher successfully supports a wide range of flat sheet processing applications with its comprehensive thickness and coating weight gauge solutions. These online, non-contact solutions deliver robust, precise and repeatable measurements for increased uptime, higher quality and minimal raw material waste in the steel, aluminum, plastics, rubber, textiles and converting industries.
