CHINAPLAS 2012 - Back to the Future

4/20/2012

"Future Zone" Showcases Fabulous Exhibits

The future is yet to come, but a "Future Car" is already parked at the 26th International Exhibition on Plastics and Rubber Industries (known as "CHINAPLAS 2012") to unveil the fantastic application of plastics and rubber. This futuristic scenario is brought by Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd that dedicatedly promotes the exhibition theme of this year: "The Future is in Plastics and Rubber". The organizer aims to push forward the plastics and rubber industries to go high-tech, and develop along with human needs, and actualize the concepts of environmental protection and low carbon emission in various applications.

The opening ceremony of CHINAPLAS 2012 is filled with both exhibitors and visitors as well as their appreciation. The organizer has held a concurrent event called "Future Zone" in order to showcase the unlimited creativity on plastics application and give audience a vivid and life experience on this future plastics concept. Exhibits include:

The Future Car

The main demonstration at "Future Zone" is the champion "Batshark". This is a 1:1 "Future Car" model selected under the "Nurturing Our Future" program. The "Future Car" design contest has been last for 5 months. Through the knowledge sharing by industry experts in the area of plastics, rubber and automotive, mechanics, and the continuous improvement of the automotive design of the 15 participating groups, the judging panels finally selected "Batshark" to be the champion owing to its smart operation system, lightweight and green technology.

Features of Batshark: Solar-Powered, Zero Emission

Each of the three material layers performs a function - absorbing sunlight, transforming sunlight into power and storing the energy. The sandwich design of the car body therefore becomes the major source of power. While not on the road during day time, the surface area of the car body can be enlarged by extending its ‘wings' to absorb maximum daylight and store for night use, resembling a batshark in appearance. Being an eco-friendly car of the future, it drives on solar energy with zero carbon emission and the Brake Energy Regeneration system also maximizes energy utility. The use of lightweight materials further reduces energy consumption.

Lightweight Concept of Plastics as Steel Substitute

The "plastics replacing steel" concept is clearly demonstrated in the integration of micro-foam technology with the sandwich car body design as well as the massive use of functional polymer materials and PLA alloy in major components. Thanks to the new individual wheel mechanic system, the future car is now lighter and more spacious. Each wheel is installed with an independent motor connected to a single remote terminal at the car bottom. Without the need for installing a bulky and heavy engine, and by replacing the large gearing system/power generator with a high-tech solar-driven system and an intellectual operation platform, a brand-new concept of "Batshark" is born.

Humanized and Intellectualized

An ingenious touch-screen operating system controls the entire vehicle. Your fingertip operates the future car. A soft touch gets you the latest traffic information and puts air-con/music under your control. Remote operation of home appliances, accessing to office documents and internet, etc...is just a finger away. Batshark possesses the most advanced virtual projection technology with the front windshield showing the surrounding traffic situation, road maps and routing information. The spacious interior, wide front view, smart rear camera, and radar distance sensor all add up to offer you the most enjoyable driving experience.

Flexibility and Convenience of Four-Wheel Drive
The four-wheel independent control makes a perfect U-turn possible with least angle adjustment. Such function is useful in future crowded cities with heavy traffic.

"Premium Design Gallery" is the second part of "Future Zone". Here, a large display area is set up to showcase a series of new, unique design of various plastic-made end products.

Bayer Material Science (China) Co., Ltd brings a Tree of Life which is made of polycarbonate film and a Solar Impulse aircraft model which uses solar energy as the power source. Dupont Titanium Tech (Shanghai) Co. displays cosmetic containers of which DuPont™ Surlyn® 3D Overmolding Technology is applied to create new visual effects to cosmetic packaging so as to enhance the image of a brand. BASF (China) Co Ltd showcases two types of chairs which demonstrate how a chair can possess delicateness, high mobility and various designs on shapes. What is more! There is puzzling cutlery with special design. Three cutlery items can be jointed together, forming a small yet stable free-standing sculpture that challenges the table manner of user. Last but not the least, ASSOCOMAPLAST - Italian Plastics & Rubber Processing Machinery and Moulds Manufacturers' Association has also invited its members to display creative plastics end products.

"Future Zone" has received widespread support and recognition. Supporting partners and co-organizing units include East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Society of Plastics Industry, ASSOCOMAPLAST - Italian Plastics & Rubber Processing Machinery and Moulds Manufacturers' Association and Shanghai Automotive Trade Association. In addition, the organizer has also invited Mr. Shuwen Liu, Senior Engineer of Shanghai GM/Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center Co., Ltd as the consultant of the event. Moreover, the organizer is glad to announce that Demag Plastics Group and Kingfa Sci. & Tech. Co Ltd are the Platinum Sponsors of the event, while Reliance Industries Ltd is the Gold Sponsor.

CHINAPLAS 2012 staged its grand opening today (Apr 18) and it will open for 4 days until Apr 21 (Saturday) at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. The "Future Zone" is set up concurrently and is located at the Central Square (near the North Wing) of the exhibition centre.

CHINAPLAS 2012 has a record-breaking scale of 210,000sqm in size, which is the biggest of its kind in 2012. Over 2,700 exhibitors from 35 countries and regions, together with 13 countries/regions pavilions from Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, PR China, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UK and USA, gather under the same roof to showcase their diversified chemicals and raw materials and over 2,500 sets of machines in 11 theme zones. It is expected to have over 100,000 visitors, with 20% expected to be overseas buyers from 140 countries and regions.

Professional visitors are welcome to visit CHINAPLAS 2012. The entrance fee is RMB 20. For more enquires on the show, please visit www.ChinaplasOnline.com .
