The Netherlands, November 10, 2011 - DSM Dyneema today confirmed that preventative action related to misuse of the Dyneema® trademark was taken against fishing line manufacturer First Dart during the recent 2011 Fishing Show, which was held in Langfang, Heibei province, (located between Beijing and Tianjing in China), during July 26-29.
Representatives from the local AIC (Administration of Industry and Commerce), in close cooperation with DSM Dyneema's China IP agent, seized a range of marketing materials from the First Dart booth including brochures, products and packaging that were all falsely using the Dyneema® trademark. First Dart - which also exports many of its products to Europe - was prohibited from making any further displays of the infringing materials.
"DSM Dyneema is committed to building a strong brand for the benefit of our authorised users and developers across the globe," says Noud Steffens, Marketing Manager at DSM Dyneema. "It is therefore crucial that we keep a tight focus on maintaining the correct and authorized use of the Dyneema® brand in all markets and regions where the exceptional properties of our Ultra High Molecular Weight PolyEthylene (UHMWPE) fiber, and brand associations of Dyneema® are key to the success of our partners. For that reason, we are encouraging fiber users to enter our brand licensing program. At the same time, we are going to put an end to any unauthorized use of the Dyneema® brand."
In supporting members of its brand licensing program, DSM is resolutely determined to protect the Dyneema® brand and its trademarks. This is especially important in the fishing tackle industry, where the brand is a mark of performance and quality trusted by anglers worldwide. The Dyneema® name and logo are registered trademarks owned by DSM around the world. In Japan, DSM's joint venture partner Toyobo owns the trademark registration. The two companies are steadfast in their efforts to protect these valuable assets and take appropriate action whenever required.
