Leitz focuses on Industry 4.0 and service excellence to make Ligna 2015 a resounding success

7/24/2015

At Ligna 2015, Leitz featured networked tooling production and after-sale service excellence. Visitors to the Leitz booths also witnessed a number of innovations in tooling, including the ProfilCut Q profile cutterhead system.

Oberkochen, June 22, 2015 - In hall 12 Ligna visitors could observe servicing and reconditioning of tools Live on the show floor. With the slogan "Good as new", Leitz installed a complete service station in its booth. "High-level tool service is the fundamental component of our service commitment", said Alessandro Telesio, speaker for Management of the Leitz Group. Quality of service determines whether tools perform at the same level from the first day of use until the last and whether their lifetime potential is fully maximized. "Therefore we wanted to show our visitors what makes our service so special", continues Telesio.

The main feature of Leitz's other booth in hall 26 was networked production - Industry 4.0. Visitors could see the first prototypes of networked tooling. These tools contain tiny data chips with individual codes that are stored in a cloud. "There, tools will actively save individual data with ongoing updates", said Telesio looking to the future. Machines, service technicians and users can easily access this data. Booth visitors also observed "eApps4Production", a current research project. The objective of this project is to develop engineering apps which collect various information from production processes and provide this data to any end device. "The Apps will open up new options in process optimization", predicts Telesio.

Working together to develop Industry 4.0

Networked production was one of the main topics at this year's Ligna Fair. "In Hannover, many enterprises shared their vision of networked processes", according to Telesio. "Now all players in the industry must agree upon how to put these ideas into motion." This will be a constant dialogue between users and machinery and tooling manufacturers: "Industry 4.0 can't advance without cooperation across all industries", explains Telesio. At Ligna, Leitz had productive discussions and forged new partnerships with other industry leaders, which will provide the basis for further development. "With respect to networked tools, we would like to stay one step ahead through the remainder of 2015 and present new results", adds Telesio.

The quickest tooling system in the industry

Among the many tooling innovations Leitz showcased was the new ProfilCut Q profile cutterhead system, whose Premium version was presented as the quickest tooling system in the industry. ProfilCut Q not only scores with high cutting speeds but also offers advantages in finish quality and handling. Furniture producers saw the wide range of tooling systems offered by Leitz, always optimized for very special processing jobs. Leitz innovations on display included jointing cutters, cross-cut saws, scrapers and the new Quattroform tooling system.

Positive outlook for Leitz

The mood at Leitz after the trade fair in Hannover is excellent. "We presented our company very well, and our message was heard", states Telesio. The international audience was very professional. "Many visitors had very definite investment plans." As a result, Leitz expects significant after-fair business. "However, just as important is that the trade fair was enjoyed by all", said Telesio. This launches Leitz into the second half of the business year with growing momentum.
